Bevan S. Main, PhD

Assistant Professor

Originally from Australia, Bevan carried out his undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the University of Melbourne. In 2015 he completed his Ph.D., investigating the neuroinflammatory role of type-1 interferons in preclinical models of Parkinson’s disease. Bevan moved to the USA in 2016 for his postdoctoral training with Dr. Mark Burns in the Neuroscience Department at Georgetown University Medical Center.

In 2019 he was appointed to the position of Research Assistant Professor within the same department, where his current research uses a combination of animal models, molecular neurobiology, behavioral and next-generation sequencing techniques to understand how repetitive head impacts and moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) influences the development of neurodegenerative disease. Bevan teaches Neuroscience courses in both the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN) and the MS in Integrative Neuroscience program at Georgetown University.

Bevan is a fan of all things sports and is regularly picked on by the lab for being a New England Patriots & Boston Red Sox fan. Despite the criticism of being a "bandwagon" fan, he has enjoyed witnessing 3 super bowl victories and a world series win since his arrival at Georgetown.
